Soprattutto negli ultimi anni si è fatto un gran parlare di autodeterminazione, autonomismo, indipendentismo (il federalismo nemmeno lo calcolo perchè non ci sarà mai), il problema è che questi argomenti coinvolgono una minoranza di veneti, in crescita e rumorosa, ma pur sempre una minoranza. Purtroppo 150 anni di italia hanno creato un popolo apatico e rassegnato, se non addirittura complice dei propri vessatori, una sorta di 'Sindrome di Stoccolma' applicata a una intera nazione (quella Veneta, naturalmente).

E' triste sentire ragazzi di 25-30 anni che ti dicono "Così vanno le cose, bisogna mettersela via", ancora più triste è vedere certi personaggi la cui massima aspirazione è quella di non battere più lo scontrino fiscale. Se i primi sono rassegnati all'inferno, il paradiso dei secondi è a dieci centimetri da terra.
A queste persone bisogna far ritrovare l'orgoglio e la dignità, la capacità di sognare e la volontà di combattere per realizzare i propri sogni, i veneti vanno motivati e indirizzati sulla via della LIBERTA', quella vera, che solo la fine del colonialismo italiano può dare.
Ci sono poi gli italianisti, quelli per interesse e quelli per abitudine. Dei primi fanno parte quasi tutti i politici degli attuali partiti, che sullo status quo hanno fondato e costruito le loro fortune. Gente che per un briciolo di ben remunerato potere ha tradito la propria terra e la propria gente, diventando politicamente il cane da guardia dello stato. A questi personaggi non auguriamoo di finire appesi per i piedi a un distributore di benzina (non che ci dispiacerebbe...), ci basterebbe essere presenti quando non conteranno più un cazzo e dovranno percorrere in tutta fretta la via per Hammamet.
Gli altri italianisti sono frutto di decenni di retorica patriottarda somministrata quotidianamente in dosi da cavallo da scuola, politica e media. Nonostante siano figli di una terra bistrattata, venduta (Istria e Dalmazia) e depredata dallo stato italiano, appena sentono le prime note di 'Fardelli d'italia' scattano sull'attenti e, con mano sul cuore e occhio umido, cantano a voce alta tutta la tiritera. Solitamente si tratta del tipico nazionalismo cialtrone di quelli che non vedono l'ora che la nazionale italiana di calcio vinca qualcosa per fiondarsi in strada a strombazzare col loro bravo tricolore fuori dal finestrino. Più che un sentimento è un'abitudine e per questo più deleteria, perchè il sentimento è quasi sempre motivato e quando non ci sono più le motivazioni il sentimento si affievolisce fino a sparire, le abitudini invece sono dure a morire.

Dopo la chiusura delle sedi politiche di Batasuna (il principale partito della sinistra abertzale), sono proprio le taverne i nuovi circoli indipendentisti, in molti locali sono in vendita materiali propagandistici delle poche organizzazioni ancora legali e l’aria che si respira smells of active resistance. La fierezza dei baschi per la loro terra e la loro cultura è evidente, simboli identitari sono diffusi ovunque e in ogni contesto, dal calcio alla musica, dai souvenir ai media (esistono una rete tv e una serie di pubblicazioni in euskera).
